Parsha B’reisheet
Parsha B’reisheet בראשית “In the beginning”
- Torah portion: B’reisheet 1:1-6:8
- Haphtarah: Isaiah 42:5-43:10
- Brit Chadasha: Revelation 22:6-21
Did you know: B’reisheet is the 1st parsha [portion] of sefer [scroll of/book of] B’reisheet [Genesis]?
Science: Plants, plants, and more plants! This week we will inundate our children with all of the wonder and science of the plant kingdom. Oklahoma Homeschool has put together some great ideas to help our unit study get off the ground (no pun intended).
History: What happens when we disobey? There’s a consequence or punishment, of course when we make a mistake or bad decision. This week, we will (cautiously) study the history of crime and punishment around the world. Looking at some of the ways leaders of different cultures through the ages saw fit to punish its members, I am SO GLAD we serve a merciful and gracious God!
Art: Let’s paint some puffy clouds! Puffy paint is so much fun for all ages! This recipe for puffy paint is made from just shaving cream and Elmer’s white glue.
Sewing: So, let’s face it… making clothes is not a task for the faint of heart BUT don’t stop reading! I have found what seems to be a super cute way to up-cycle clothes you already have laying around. I’m going to try it with my kids who are 11+ years old but feel free to try it out with the tinier ones as well! We’re going to turn an old sweater into an infinity scarf (the boys can make them as gifts and the girls can make them for themselves). It’s pretty much a straight stitch all the way so it should be easy enough to accomplish in an hour or so.
Teen Talk Time: Once again, we focus on family and faith this week. Are we our brother’s keepers? Uh… yeah… we are! So, what can we do to take care of the first best friends YHWH gave to us: our siblings, cousins, parents, etc? Then, how can we extend that love and safety and protection to those around us and at our fellowship?
